

Anita Marie Couture, age 101 years, passed away peacefully at D’Youville Pavillion on June 7th, 2026, Lewiston, Maine. Born on April 14, 1925, in Augusta, Maine, she was the daughter of Alphonsine and Andrew Bouffard. She was married to Gaudias Couture who passed away in December of 1989. They shared a beautiful life together for 42 years.
Anita lived a long and fruitful life serving her Lord and Savior. She was a devout Catholic who was very much loved and well known at both Holy Cross Church and the Basilica at Saint Peter & Paul. Anita was also known for preparing many weddings at Holy Cross Church. She spent countless early mornings walking to church to prepare for the masses during the week. Anita attended many retreats in her lifetime. She taught religious education at Holy Cross Church for many years.
Anita would spend every night praying for those in need and would not go to bed until she was finished praying. She was a talented seamstress, handcrafting Baptismal and First Communion dresses, and many projects. Anita was a woman with many talents; she loved to cook and made beautiful cakes for special occasions. One of her greatest accomplishments was that she became the owner of her own restaurant called Anita’s Restaurant in the late 70’s. Anita was a very caring person who donated to numerous organizations to help feed the hungry.
Anita is survived by two daughters: Marie Madeleine Cleary and Lorraine Couture, her son Gerald Couture and daughter in law Terri Couture. Three granddaughters: Heather Johnson, husband Shawn Johnson, Bethany Couture-Rosado, husband Alex Rosado and Ashley Morris, husband Khari Morris. Three grandsons: Michael Skaggs, Scott Gooding, Travis Couture & fiancé Holly Higgins. Great grandchildren: Kairi & Naya Johnson and Aryn Gooding.
She was deceased by three sisters: Yvette Bouffard, Pauline Pomerleau and Cecile Bouffard. One brother; Armand Bouffard all from Augusta, Maine.
