LEWISTON- Arlene M. Duclos passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at The Woodlands in Lewiston, Maine, surrounded by the love of her family after battling Alzheimer’s and dementia. Arlene was the only child to Harlan and Theresa (Nadeau) Harris.
Arlene is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Paul Duclos; her daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Brett Townsend and Sandra and Michael Irish; and her cherished grandsons, Josh Leclair, Cameron Irish, and Connor Irish, who were the absolute light of her life.
Arlene's greatest joy was caring for the people she loved. Baking sweets was her love language, and she was happiest when her kitchen was filled with the aroma of fresh cookies, bread, cakes, or one of her many homemade creations. She loved to cook and was always searching for her next favorite recipe—often "borrowing" recipes from magazines in doctors' offices (her family affectionately joked to keep that little secret!).
A gifted and creative soul, Arlene was an avid crafter who could transform almost anything with her talent. She enjoyed sewing, tole painting, gardening, upholstering furniture, designing beautiful curtains, making Halloween costumes and dreaming up countless new projects—many of which lovingly kept her husband, Paul, busy. If she could imagine it, he could create it.
She found peace by the ocean and especially treasured time spent in York, Maine on countless summer vacations. While she never learned to swim, nothing made her happier than sitting by the water, soaking in the sun’s rays, listening to the waves, eating and going lobstering and enjoying the beauty of the coast.
Above all else, Arlene was an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother. She gave selflessly to her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. She went above and beyond for her daughters, offering unwavering love, encouragement, and support throughout their lives.
Being "Grammie” was her favorite role. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines at a a football, basketball or baseball event, helping with a craft project, sneaking the grandchildren out for a sweet treat (more often than their parents would have preferred), or spoiling them every chance she got, she made each of them feel deeply loved. The memories they shared with her will be treasured forever.
Arlene had a remarkable sense of humor and an infectious yet devious laugh that could brighten any room. She had a way of making ordinary moments feel special, and her kindness, warmth, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her beloved puppy, Reese, was her constant companion and brought her endless happiness. Reese went nearly everywhere with her and was loved as though he were another member of the family.
Arlene's legacy is one of unconditional love, creativity, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her absence leaves an immeasurable void, but the countless memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arlene's life during visitation on Saturday, July 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, Maine. A small reception will be held after visitation at the Duclos residence located at 84 Avon Street in Lewiston, Maine.
