

Auburn- Armand L. Tardif 93, formerly of Orange St. Lewiston died on D-Day, June 6, 2013 at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. For the past two years he has resided at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Armand was born on June 1, 1920 in Lewiston a son of the late Joseph and Annie (Michaud) Tardif. He attended Lewiston and Auburn Schools. He was very proud to serve in the US Army in the 22nd Armored Division. Under General Patton's command in the European theatre during WWII, he was a tank crewmen gunner, radio operator and ammunition handler. He operated the fastest tank in the US Army, and fought in four major battles. Following the war he went on to work at Pepperill Mills and Knapp Shoe. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, cooking and gardening. He enjoyed country music and Daniel O'Donnell. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Armand was the beloved husband of Rosia (Bernier) Tardif, whom he married on December 26, 1944. They had been married for 64 years until she died in 2006. He was extremely devoted to his lovely wife Rosia, and constantly stayed by her side through several years of illness. He is survived by his partner of several years Murielle Lapointe, two brothers in law Eugene Stevens, and Armand Hamel, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons Robert and Armand Jr. four brothers and five sisters. Visitation Fortin Lewiston Monday 2-4 & 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 11 Am at The Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul. Committal will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
