

She was born on December 6, 1936 in Sabattus, Maine to Charles E. and Irene F. (Ashton) Gardner. She was educated at Sabattus elementary school, Webster School in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn in 1955. She attended Gorham State Teachers College graduating in 1959. She married Myles E. “Jim” Grant on August 14, 1960 in Sabattus. They had one son, Peter C. Grant.
For 35 years, Mrs. Grant taught 2nd grade to hundreds of Lewiston children. She began her career at Martel Elementary School and then at McMahon Elementary where she retired in 1994. She was immensely proud that her tenure gave her the opportunity to teach multiple generations of families while following her students growth and lives.
Audrey was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn and belonged to the Maine and Lewiston Retired Teachers Associations. She was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma honor society of professional women educators. She volunteered in many capacities and organizations including the YWCA, Jubilee Center and St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store where she regularly worked.
Audrey grew up the oldest of three sisters and throughout her life family was important to her. She loved her only son, Peter, very much and was deeply saddened by his passing in 2005. She served as the matriarch of the Gardner family and always kept up on the activities of her niece and nephews as well as her beloved grand nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and many, many friends in the Lewiston-Auburn community.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Jim in 1998. She is survived by her sisters Charlene Gilley and husband, Jim, of Lebanon, PA and Virginia Adams of Auburn; Nephews David Gilley and his wife, Mary of Harpswell, Mark Adams and his wife, Kate of Lewiston, Michael Adams of Auburn and niece Patricia Gurdus and husband, David, of Fredericksburg, PA; Grand nieces and nephews Tucker and Tanner Adams, Matthew, Elizabeth and Sierra Gilley and Alicia and Joshua Gurdus.

Grant age 75 years a resident of Lewiston Funeral services honoring Audrey's life will be held WEDNESDAY 11:00AM at the United Methodist Church of Auburn with Pastor Richard Cullen officiating. Burial with graveside committal prayers will be held later in the Spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sabattus.
