Born on March 14, 1958, in Dover, New Hampshire, to the late Ben and Inez Patch, she graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a B.S. in Education with minors in elementary education and reading. It was there that she met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Rosaire Legee, and they were married on May 23, 1980 at St. Louis Church in New Auburn. Together they built a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter.
Barbara was a dedicated mother who never missed a baseball game, a school event, or a chance to remind her children how proud she was of them. She was a retired middle school math and science teacher who always went above and beyond for her students. Throughout her life, she was always someone who stood up for those she cared about. Her grandchildren knew her as “Gram,” and they will remember her kindness, strength, and amazing sense of humor.
While married to Chuck, they lived in many states, including Maine, Vermont, North Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, before moving back to Maine in retirement. Her hobbies included knitting, cross-stitch, reading, spending time with her family, and helping out at community events.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Chuck; her daughter, Hollie (Bobby) Legee-Cressman, and their sons Nick and River, of Casco; her son, Nicholas (Jennifer) Legee, and their children, Elijah and Melody, of Monmouth; her brother, Robert (Debbie) Patch of Kansas City, Missouri, and their son Mathew; and a large extended family on Chuck’s side, including 5 brother- and sister-in-laws, 14 beloved nieces and nephews, and countless great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life for her close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, Maine, who provided exceptional care to her and her family.
