Barry H Baldwin, 67, of Durham, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 4, 2018. He was born March 23, 1951 in Farmington, Maine to Gwendolyn Storer and Walter Baldwin. He was a self-made entrepreneur, starting off as a caddy, collecting cans and shoveling snow in Fall River, MA then eventually making his way back to Maine to create a logging and excavation business. A man of many talents, he has trained as an electrician, worked as a sheepskin tanner, a mason, was a Selectman for the town of Durham, and a businessman.
Barry was dedicated to providing for his loved ones. His dream was to leave a meaningful legacy for his children. In the late 1970’s, he started his logging business with an old John Deere tractor and built it into the successful family business it is today.
Barry lived life under his own terms. He worked hard, but still enjoyed life to the fullest. He made friends everywhere he went. He would give you the shirt off his own back, unless it was his favorite Hawaiian shirt. He had a hard outer shell, but those who knew Barry best saw his soft marshmallow interior. Barry had an affection for animals, especially his faithful companion Bruiser, who always rode shotgun. It wasn’t uncommon to see Bruiser waiting patiently in the truck while Barry conducted business. Barry could never leave for work without saying goodbye to his other four dogs. Sophie wouldn't let him leave the house without her love! She got more hugs than Pauline. He also shared his home with a donkey, a miniature horse, chickens, and birds.
Barry was particularly proud of the home he built for him and Pauline. He built the house using boards he had milled from trees cleared from his property. He had a vision of having a self-sufficient home and it was achieved by him living off-the-grid. He decorated his home using unique and rustic pieces he found while enjoying another one of his hobbies—antiquing. He was a collector of “stuff” and if you’re reading this, you may have attended one of his infamous “stuff” sales.
Barry had an infectious spirit and brought joy to those around him. Simply put, he was the life of the party. His presence will be greatly missed. WLYF!
Barry was predeceased by his mother Gwendolyn Storer and sister Denna Solomon. He leaves behind his fiancé Pauline McEnery, his son Scott Hewett and his wife Kristin, daughter Michelle Geronimo and her husband Roy, son Marcus Baldwin and his wife Lynda, and daughter Maeghan Knowles and her husband Andrew, Pauline's Children, Michael McEnery and his wife Morgan, Casey McEnery, Cody McEnery, Billy McEnery, siblings George White, Earl Baldwin and Cindy Storer-Blazer, former spouses Jody Merrill and Nancy Baldwin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Fortin Group, 70 Horton Street, Lewiston from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please bring memories to share with friends and family.
