

Charlotte (McKenzie) Witten, 79, of Auburn left her home and went to be with her Creator on February 1, 2010 after a long illness. She was born in Bancroft, ME on Oct. 29, 1930, the daughter of Mary (McKenzie) Quimby. She was educated in a one room schoolhouse in Bancroft, ME. She worked for many years at Gould & Scammon and Pioneer Plastics. She had been a member of The Salvation Army in Lewiston since 1962, serving as Cub Scout Leader, Home League Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, FOF Secretary, and various other roles. Having been a 4 time cancer survivor she volunteered for The American Cancer Society. Charlotte was a life-long member of DECMA (Down East Country Music Association). She also volunteered for the Country Music Theater in East Dixfield, ME. She was an instrumental organizer with Helping Hands for the Bancroft, ME Veterans Memorial Monument. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gospel and country music, yodeling, singing, quilting, traveling, working in her flower garden, and watching the birds and squirrels play in her yard. Throughout the years she spent countless hours visiting people in the hospitals and nursing homes, delivering cheer and goodies and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone she met. Charlotte is survived by her mother, Mary Quimby, of Auburn; two sons, Earl and his wife, Kelly, of Bancroft, and Paul and his wife, Lynn, of Auburn; two daughters, Mary Belanger and her husband, Maurice, of Manchester, and Connie Campbell and her husband, John, of Waldorf, MD; three brothers, Albert Quimby of Englewood, FL, James Quimby of Davenport, FL, and Walter Quimby of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and many family members in Kentucky and Ohio. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Elmer Witten; step-father, Ralph Quimby; sons, Ronald Witten and Elmer Witten, Jr.; daughter, Laura LeClair; granddaughters, Patty Jo Sukeforth, Janice Campbell, and Kristina Witten; sisters, Louise Troy and Gloria Cole. WITTEN died in Auburn, February 1, 2010, Mrs. Charlotte R. Witten, age 79 years a resident of Auburn.A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held FRIDAY 11AM from the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son with Reverend Donald Klemanski presiding. Graveside committal prayers will be held later in the Spring at Oak Hill Cemetery, Auburn..
