LEWISTON- Donald Peter Bowen Sr., “Pete,” 85, of Lewiston, was called home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on April 26, 2026, at his residence following a short illness. Welcoming him at Heaven’s gates was the love of his life, Connie.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine, on August 14, 1940, the son of the late Edward and Florence (Yon) Bowen. Pete attended Litchfield area schools and went on to serve in the Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged.
Pete met and married the love of his life, Constance Faye Darling, on October 5, 1963. They shared 60 beautiful years together until her passing two years ago. He missed her deeply and longed for the day they would be reunited. Together, they raised seven wonderful children and built a life centered on love and family. They enjoyed traveling with friends and family, with some of their most cherished memories including trips to Hawaii and two family cruises.
Pete worked as a supervisor at the former Webster Rubber Company in Sabattus until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and could often be found at local gyms and fields cheering on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If he couldn’t attend, he would eagerly wait by the phone for play-by-play updates. A devoted New England sports fan, Pete enjoyed following the New England Patriots, and right up until his passing, he could be found channel surfing between the Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox—all in one evening. He also found joy in gardening, hunting, and fishing at camp.
Pete was an active member of Community Baptist Church of Sabattus and later attended Open Door Bible Baptist Church with his wife. There, he faithfully served as an usher and spent many years preparing school lunches for the Christian Academy.
Pete’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He was selfless and generous with his time and compassion, always there for his loved ones—whether watching grandchildren on a snow day, serving as a “local taxi” to school and other events, or cooking their favorite meals. Above all, he devoted himself to caring endlessly for his beloved wife. He will always be remembered as someone you could call on for most any need. His dedication and service to his family was a true reflection of his deep faith in the Lord.
He is survived by his seven children: sons Stanley and wife Tina; Anthony and wife Anna-Mae; Ricky and wife Lori; Donald Peter Jr. and wife Lorraine; and Mark, all of Lewiston; daughters Bonnie and husband Bob of Hudson, Florida, and Cindy and husband Steve of Wales. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by four sisters, Viola, Lorraine, Evelyn, and Sheena, and one brother, Phillip.
In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by four brothers, Sonny, Merle, Billy, and Andy; one sister, Jeanette; and one grandson, Josh.
“His Lord said unto him, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.’” — Matthew 25:21
