

LEWISTON – Dorothy Dunton Doyle, 91, a resident of Howe Street, Lewiston passed away early Monday morning at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion following a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born in Lewiston, May 14, 1920 the daughter of Charles and Cora (Fournier) Dunton. Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Lewiston High School and a graduate of the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. On February 11, 1944, she married Thomas F. Doyle, the love of her life. Tom and Dorothy met while working at Sears Roebuck and Co. She spent 16 years as a homemaker and summers managing the family business in Old Orchard Beach, the Murray House. Dorothy returned to the work force for the City of Lewiston in the Auditor’s Office in 1960 retiring 22 years later in 1982. Dot and Tom spent seven wonderful retirement years traveling and enjoying life with dear friends, Gilda and Will Dennis. Dot joined the volunteers at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center serving 20 years and 15,000 hours ending her service as manager of the gift shop. She was a life member of the City’s L.M.A.A. and former member of U.C.T., Covenant 50, and Horizon’s 55. Survivors include one son, Thomas R. Doyle, and one daughter, Patricia E. Doyle, grandchildren; Richard Doyle and his wife, Gail, Debra Cotton and her husband, Ed, and one great granddaughter, Deanna Maxim, Dorothy’s life long friend, Gilda Dennis, Mom’s dearest friend, Robin Scott, and several nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas F. Doyle in 1995. The family thanks the nurses and staff of d’Youville Pavilion 4 West for the compassion, care, dignity shown to our Mother.
