

Waterville- Dorothy M. Pond age 88 of Oakland, former Auburn resident died Tuesday March 11, 2014 at Lakewood Manor with her family at her side. Born in Auburn on July 19,1925 the daughter of the late Roy and Esther (Wiley) Phelps. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School, and was the widow of Frank Pond who died on July 22, 2004. Dot was a housewife, she also was employed as a Housekeeper for many years at the Pinette Funeral Home and prior to her retirement worked as a Crossing Guard at Washburn School in Auburn for 17 years.
She enjoyed her computer, especially Facebook where she kept in touch with many of her former Washburn School children.
Dot was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign War Post 1603 and American Legion Post 31 of Auburn.
She collected dolls, cups and saucers and enjoyed her pet cat “Poodie Tat”.
Dot is survived by two sons; Wayne Chapman and his wife Lisa of Oakland and Gary Chapman and his wife Janet of Auburn, two step daughters; Nancy Lajoie of Lewiston and Kathleen Pond of Auburn, two half sisters; Pauline Phelps of Norway and Ruby Foster and her husband Don of New Gloucester, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and two dear friends; Avis Adams and Marilyn Farmer.
The family would like to thank the Curtis family, Inland Hospital, Lakewood Manor, The Sunshine Club and her Doctor, Dr. Charlebois for his special care.
