He was born in Waterville, February 14, 1929 son of the late Austin and Mildred Perkins Hersey. He was married to Marie Lavoie.
He was employed most of his life as a truck driver.
Douglas is a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed country, bluegrass and gospel music and performed in the 1940's in a country music band and was a promoter of country music. He was inducted as a member of the Maine Country Hall of Fame. Douglas enjoyed animals especially his cats.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie of Litchfield; his children, Paul Hersey and wife Betty of Lisbon, Lannette Cloutier and husband Rene of Turner, Karen Rozecki and husband Joseph of Texas, Anne Marie Bosse of Fairfield, Franny Bosse of Oakland, Valerie McLaughlin of Gardner and Jeannette Mims and husband Steve of Augusta; also several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Rose Marie Hersey in October 2003.

Services will he held at the First Assembly of God Church, 70 Hogan Rd. Lewiston Wednesday at 7:00 PM preceded by an hour of visitation at 6:00 PM at the church. Burial St. Peter's Cemetery.
