Lewiston Edward Turgeon, 85, of Owens St, Lewiston died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Marshwood Nursing Facility with his loving family at his side. He was born in Lac Megantic, Canada, on September 24, 1928; a son of the late Dominique and Lucia (LaCroix) Turgeon. The family moved to Maine when he was a young boy. Edward proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Platoon Guide, front line machine gun operator and functioned as a sniper when called upon by his Battalion. He received two Purple Hearts with recognition for Valor. Although he was very proud of his service, he did not talk about it often. He was a well-known, self-employed contractor, building many local houses. He took great pride in his work. Edward married the love of his life Barbara Collupy on May 29, 1954, and together they raised their five children.He was a member of Holy Family Church and the DAV. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His gentle humor and kindness will be greatly missed. Special, sincere gratitude goes to the Department of Veterans Affairs, especially Dr. Sarah Kingdon, for the care and consideration afforded to Edward. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Barbara Turgeon, of Lewiston, two daughters: Monique Dodd and husband Ken of Manchester, NH and Denise Turgeon of Boston MA; three sons: Gayton Turgeon and wife Joanne of Wells, ME, Joseph Turgeon and wife Kelly of West Lake, CA, and Edward Turgeon and wife Patricia of Lewiston, as well as ten grandchildren: Elizabeth Dodd, Joseph Turgeon, Courtney Gladu, Erin Turgeon, Patrick Dodd, Sean Turgeon, Alexis Turgeon, Edward Turgeon, Thomas Turgeon, and Sophia Turgeon. He also leaves two sisters: Jeannine Valantiejus and husband Victor of Port St. Lucie, FL and Doris Provencher of Jacksonville FL, a sister-in-law, Cecile Turgeon of Lewiston, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters: Monique Nelson, Dorothee Turgeon, and Dorothee Roy, and a brother Norman Turgeon. Visitation Fortin/LEWISTON Friday Feb 28, from 2-4 & 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 1, 11 AM at Holy Family Church.
