

LEWISTON- Elsie Harris Whitney, 92, of 41 Pleasant Street, Auburn died Sunday August 31, 2008 at Central Maine Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Hartford, Maine on January 21, 1916 the daughter of Archie Eldred and Helen (Newton) Small.She was educated in schools in Mechanic Falls. She married Clarence Harris in 1934; and he passed away in 1982. Later she married Lewis Whitney; and he passed away in 1998.Elsie was employed several years at Woolworths in Lewiston and also at Bon-An Footwear in Auburn for a number of years. She enjoyed music, traveling, doing puzzles and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of West Minot Grange, being a granger for over seventy-five years. She was also a member of West Minot Church, First Auburn Senior Citizens, Robin Dow Seniors and Young at Heart Seniors at Court Street Baptist Church. She was a post member of the Eastern Star in Hallowell, Maine.She is survived by a son Richard W. Harris and his wife Linda of Poland; a daughter Charlene Reynolds of Lewiston; four grandchildren Brian Harris of Massachusetts, Jody Harris of Augusta, Lisa Sidelinger and her husband Ted of Lewiston and Rodney Phillips and his wife Cassandra of Hartford, Maine; five great grandchildren Jessica and Nicole Provencher of Lewiston, Kristen Phillips of Hartford, Maine and Amy and Kayla Phillips of Lewiston. She was predeceased by two so-in-laws Roger Galipeau and Michael Reynolds. NOTICE Whitney- Died in Lewiston Sunday August 31, 2008. Mrs. Elsie Harris Whitney age 92 a resident of Auburn. Funeral services honoring Elsie's life will be celebrated on Thursday 11AM from the Chapel of Dillingham & Son with Reverend Peter Mars officiating. Committal services will follow at Lane Cemetery in Poland.
