Embden - Ethel D. Chasse, 88, a long time resident of Lewiston, most recently of Skowhegan, passed away on Sunday May 5, 2013 at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. She was born in St. Agatha, Maine on June 3, 1924, a daughter of the late Josephel and Rosa (Labbe) Daigle. She was educated in the public schools of St. Agatha. As a young woman she moved to Biddeford followed by Lewiston and worked at New England Shipbuilding of South Portland, building Naval vessels during WW ll. There she met Xavier Chasse, also of St. Agatha, and they were married on June 27, 1944 at St. Peter and Paul Church of Lewiston. After the war, they continued to live in Lewiston where she was a homemaker until her children reached school age. She then worked outside the home in various shoe shops, and in the semi-conductor industry before finally retiring from Maine Electronics in Lisbon in 1989. She was a devoted and faithful communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Church of Lewiston for over 67 years. Ethel is survived by her two children: a son Robert Chasse and wife Kay (Parker) of Payson, Arizona, and their daughters, Jessica and Allison Chasse of Phoenix, AZ.; a daughter Mona (Chasse) Gagne and husband James of Embden Pond, Maine and their daughters: Melissa (Gagne) Beckwith and husband Jason of Bar Harbor, Maine, Amy (Gagne) Hawthorne and husband Brian of Mansfield, Massachusetts, great-grandchildren: Logan and Lily Bechwith; Samantha, Avery and Brandon Hawthorne, a brother, Ronald Chasse of Madawaska, sisters: Leully Boucher of Caroga Lake, N.Y., and Claudette Boucher of Sinclair, Maine. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of almost 60 years, Xavier, her step-father Pea Z. Chasse, brothers: Adolphe and Rodrigue Daigle, sisters: Marie Claywell and Georgette Daigle, step-brothers: Luke, Henry, Paul, Donald and J. Clifford Chasse, step-sisters: Gladys Leet, Cecile Chasse, Aline Chasse, Frances Duncan, Lorette Bard, Martha Chasse and Albina Chasse. Visitation will be held on Sunday June 9, 2013 at The Fortin Funeral Home in Lewiston from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 10, 2013 at 11 AM at Ss Peter and Paul Basilica in Lewiston. Committal will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston.
