7, 2016, in Auburn. He was born in Lewiston, Maine, on October 18, 1923, the second of six
children of Philippe and Gloria (Levesque) St. Pierre.
Gene grew up on Blake Street in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. He was a
World War II veteran having served with the 531st Engineer Shore Regiment, 1st Engineer
Special Brigade, U.S. Army. He landed on DDay, June 6, 1944, on Utah Beach in Normandy,
France.
After the war, he worked at People Savings Bank in Lewiston, Maine, from June 3, 1946, until
his retirement in 1985 as Chairman of the Board and CEO of The Peoples Bank, Portland,
Maine.
Gene married Teresa Ann Walmsley of Auburn, Maine, on January 10, 1948, at St. Patrick’s
Church in Lewiston. They spent 68 happy years together. They raised three children in New
Auburn: James, Lynn and Jeffrey.
He was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church of Lewiston, a member of the LewistonAuburn
Rotary Club since 1962, a Trustee of the Auburn Public Library for ten years and its
Treasurer for five years. He was also a member of the New Auburn American Legion Post #153,
L’Association des Famille SaintPierreDessaint, Quebec, Canada, Androscoggin Land Trust,
and several other conservation organizations.
Gene was an accomplished watercolor artist, donating many of his paintings to auctions to
benefit nonprofit organizations. He was also a lifelong outdoorsman and was member of the
skeet club in Auburn for many years. He especially loved fishing, flytying, bird hunting,
photography, and camping with his family.
In his later years, he became very interested in the history of World War II, reading many books
and watching programs, and writing of his experience in Europe.
Gene is survived by Teresa A. St. Pierre of Auburn; son James A. St. Pierre of Brunswick;
daughter Lynn A. St. Pierre and her husband, Edward Cloutier of Florida; grandson Jamien A.S.
St. Pierre of Bar Harbor; grandson Jaaron A.S. Shaw and his fiancé Lacaya Hoyt of Readfield;
brother Raymond St. Pierre and his wife, Carmen, of Auburn; sisterinlaw Mary Godin of
Auburn; brotherinlaw Daniel Lalonde of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his son Jeffrey M. St. Pierre; his brother E. Philip St. Pierre and his wife, Rita;
his brother Roger St. Pierre and his wife, Germaine; his sister Sylvia Bernier and her husband,
George; and his sister Muriel Baylis and her husband, Edward.

ST. PIERRE died in Auburn, March 7, 2016, Mr. Eugene A. St. Pierre age 92 years a resident of Auburn.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial honoring Eugene’s life will be celebrated THURSDAY March 10th 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Church.

Graveside committal prayers will be held later in the Spring concluding with US Army Military Honors.
