Florence May Roberts was born in Portland, Maine on June 15, 1946, to Arvilla May Chase Lambert and Captain Charles Earling Lambert and was the middle child between her older brother, Charles Lambert, and younger brother, Jack Lambert.
In 1964, she graduated from Falmouth High School in Falmouth, ME, and in 1968, she graduated from Gorham State College in Gorham, ME. Flo often said, “Loved it!” and her “fondest Gorham memory was (her) freshman year in Robie Hall.” She earned the nickname Renee in Girl Scout Camp, and made lifelong friends from HS, college, and GSC, and when teaching.
Flo taught in Middleton, CT, Springfield, MA, Windham, ME, and Lewiston, ME for a total of 35 years and was dedicated to her students.
After traveling to California with Karen Williams-Jordan, she "married Barton Roberts and had two children." As a family, they lived in Limington, Bucks Harbor, and Raymond. Divorced and retired in Lewiston, ME, she “enjoyed volunteering at Lewiston Auburn Senior College, Lewiston Municipal Federal Credit Union, Red Cross, Lewiston Public Theatre, and the Franco Center in Lewiston.”
Florence's "dear friends" (include but are not limited to/not in any order) Karen Williams Jordan, Robyn Ross, Adma Willis (Maggison), Phyllis Hall, Laurie Allen, Claire Gamache, Laura Parker, Sue Nichols, Diane Williams, Sue Watson, Lois Conaye, Phillis Woodsum, Glo Beers, Georgie Revard, Simonne Paul, Linda Liberty, Bonnie Roberts, Jeannie Downs Lutz, Lou Spugnardi, Dwayne Conway, her older brother Chuck Lambert, her younger brother Jack Lambert, and their wives, Mary, and Diane Lambert, and affectionately dubbed Wrong-Side-Jackson or Big Daddy Jackson (her cat), "Jackson was a special friend during the years living in Lewiston."
She enjoyed reading, writing, swimming, making tasty peanut butter balls and needham treats for family and friends, decorating her home for the seasons, and she "enjoyed all kinds of music and went to many concerts (with friends and family) in southern Maine." Her daughter and son loved her great, rolling, contagious laugh. She would always laugh when she shared about her travels in Europe during the summer of 1968 with Karen Williams, Suzanne Brooks, and JoAnne Thyng and other fun adventures. She also shared that she had wonderful times camping and when she visited the Canadian Maritimes, PEI, and Hermit Island in Phippsburg, ME.
Flo loved the ocean, traveling, camping, and cruising with family and dear friends. She visited Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, PEI, and the Canadian Maritimes, and many states to the south and west of the USA several times, including Alaska and many islands of Maine. She shared fond memories of when she climbed Mt. Katahdin as a Girl Scout counselor at Cedar Cove, Natarswi, SaGiska, and when she traveled with friends and family to FL, PA, MI, Cape Cod, Plymouth Plantation with her younger brother, and trips to Cape Canaveral (Kennedy), Disney and Hershey with her two kids, and her trips to Monhegan Island, ME, and the Carolinas. She shared that when she drove her mother up Mt. Washington–– she was “scared!” and always expressed pride in the accomplishment of driving the mountain in the car she bought herself.
She leaves her "friends and family a fond farewell and a special thanks for the memories."
