George Ashley Burgess

Born in Frye, Maine on September 18, 1924 the son of the late William A. and Flora A. (Bushley) Burgess.

On August 21, 1954 he married the former Constance J. Enman who survives him of Auburn.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII where he served on the USS Tuscaloosa.

Prior to his retirement he worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the town of Rumford and then later on for several area construction companies including, St. Laurent Excavation.

He raised his family in Rumford, Mechanic Falls and in 1967 moving to Lewiston.

George was very proud of his Navy past and Memorial Day and Veterans Day were very important holidays as a proud American.

For those who can remember he and his wife could often be seen sitting together on their porch at 167 Bartlett Street, they enjoyed waving and talking to passerby’s, while not even knowing their names.

Construction was always part of his life, taking his family to excavation and construction sites on weekend drives. He enjoyed antiquing and flea markets. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters; Susan Booker and her husband Randall of Sabattus, Shari Gosselin and her husband John of Lewiston and Sandra Beaudoin and her husband Maurice of Lewiston, two sons; Steven Burgess and his companion Kim of Lewiston and Scot Burgess and his wife Paula of Turner, two sisters; Marilyn MacDonald of Canada and Marie Jonitis of Portland, fifteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son Shawn Burgess and several brothers and sisters.
