George Edward Holmes

He was born in Portland, ME on December 27, 1960, a son of the late George S. & Jacqueline (Merrthew) Holmes. Bubba grew up in Portland attending local area schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1979.

George lived a life full of energy, joy and love; he had a passion for golf, cycling and dancing. He spent several years as a football official in Southern Maine and never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

George will be remembered for his sarcasm, humor generous spirit and the joy he brought to every room. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years Mary T. (Daignault) Holmes and a blended family he loved deeply including his three children Stacia Benedict and her husband Jeffrey, Mark Holmes and his wife Stephanie and Sean Holmes, along with his stepchildren Matt Theriault and his wife Andrea, Katie Lavoie and her husband Mark and Joe Theriault.

George was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren Katherine, Ethan, Olivia, Ivy, Calla, Connor, Makayli, Bailey, Lucas and Liam, whom he cherished spending time with. He also leaves behind his sisters Cindy Douglas and her husband Wayne and Jamie Doe and her husband Jon, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Denise Amadon and Scott Holmes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 4 – 7 pm at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A, Plourde Parkway, Lewiston.
