Ghyslaine, the youngest of eleven children, was born on September 29, 1943 in Saint-Honoré-de-Shenley, Quebec, Canada, to Adelbert Roy and Félixine Breton. In Canada, Ghyslaine grew up only a mile down the road from her future husband, Michel Bureau. The two shared an enduring love story, which would have included their sixtieth wedding anniversary in April 2026.
In 1963, Ghyslaine immigrated to the United States to join her husband in Hartford, Connecticut, where they started their small family. In Hartford, they started raising their two sons, Tommy and Robert, before moving to Lewiston, Maine in 1978.
After a number of years of hard work in manufacturing, Ghyslaine was primarily a homemaker as well as a caretaker for her grandchildren. She was a tireless worker, and the immaculate condition of her home was strong evidence of her dedication to her family.
Ghyslaine had a passion for dancing at every opportunity, whether it be in the arms of her husband or just for the fun of it. She loved friendly competition in the form of weekly card games with their closest friends, occasional bingo nights, and may have even surprised some with her bowling skills.
There were few things more important to Ghyslaine than her family. No birthday could come and go without the opportunity to celebrate that person with a personalized cake and a round of pictures. Often hosting gatherings of family and friends, she would not rest unless everyone in attendance was well-fed and comfortable. Her knack for giving gifts was evidence of her generous and nurturing nature, often using casual conversation as inspiration for the perfect gift. Ghyslaine was the glue who bonded her family together, and she will be deeply missed.
Ghyslaine is survived by her husband Michel Bureau; her son Tommy and his wife, Michelle, Bureau; her son Robert Bureau; her four grandchildren, Alyssa, Damon, Payton, and Evan; and her great-grandchild, Caiden.
Ghyslaine is also survived by her siblings Lucille Quirion, Normand Roy, Regianne Begin and Robert Roy, and their families.
She was predeceased by her father Adelbert Roy, mother Félixine Breton, and siblings Rolande Grondin, Rosario Roy, Bernadin Roy, Fernand Roy, Leandre Roy and Abel Roy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
