Gregory Wayne Gallant

Rumford- Gregory Gallant, 78, of Rumford Maine passed away unexpectedly on July 29th after a brief illness. He was born in Rumford in 1946, the oldest son of Norbert and Ellen (Hickey) Gallant. A 1965 graduate of Mexico High School, he was an athlete of local renown. He gave back to the next generation of sports minded youth as a football and baseball coach, and Judo instructor. He first worked with the Maine Warden Service, then returned home to serve as an officer and eventually Chief of Police (aka Buford) in the town of Mexico. The motto "to serve and protect" guided his personal life as well. He was generous to a fault and always had your back, particularly if you were lucky enough to be among his circle of friends and neighbors. In retirement he became a dedicated member of Oakdale Country Club where he often volunteered his services. Primarily, Greg will be remembered for being an accomplished woodsman with extensive wisdom to impart, and innumerable experiences and stories to share with willing listeners. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Wendy Miller. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Cheryl; his son, Christopher; his daughter, Kimberly; his brother, Timothy; and five grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Lindsay, who shared many outdoor exploits with him; and one great grandson. Per Greg's request there will be no service held.  Arrangements by Thibault Remembrance Center 250 Penobscot St., Rumford.
