

LEWISTON - Harold S. Swain, 78, a resident of 96 Kyle Lane, Auburn died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Rangeley, November 30, 1928 the son of Stephen and Bessie (Haley) Swain. He attended Rangeley schools and then joined the United States Army as an MP serving in Italy during World War II. Following the war, he graduated from the Utilities Engineering Institute of Chicago, Illinois as a diesel mechanic. He married the former Rowena Hammond on February 3, 1951 in Farmington, Me..Harold resided in the Farmington area for forty years before moving to Auburn in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion, and while in Auburn attended the Riverside Drive Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Rowena of Auburn; three daughters, Marjorie Santoro and her husband, Brad of Wareham, MA; Eunice Goss and her husband, Greg of Kent City, MI ; and Jo Ann Gallant and her husband, Chris of Turner; two sisters, Jean Grant of Rangeley;and Geraldine Wilkinson of Manchester, NH; one brother, Marshall Swain of Rangeley; 8 grandchildren, Bridget Peirce; Bernadet Smith; Daniel Goss; Joshua Goss; Bethany Ferrell;Bobbi Jo Pond; Amber Brown; Ethan Gallant, and �also surviving are 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. SWAIN died in Lewiston, September 8, 2007, Mr. Harold S. Swain age 78 years a resident of Auburn formerly of Farmington. Funeral services will be held WEDNESDAY 9:30AM at the Riverside Drive Baptist Church, Auburn with Pastor Brian Demers officiating. Burial to follow with military honors at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
