Mrs. Henrietta Juliette Charest, a devoted and beloved member of the Lewiston, Maine community, passed away on October 12, 2025, at the age of 94, with her family by her side. Born on May 10, 1931, in Auburn to the late Romeo and Antoinette Raymond. Henrietta was known for her selfless, hard-working, and humorous nature.
Henrietta attended Catholic schools in her early years, laying the foundation for a life filled with faith and dedication. On November 20, 1954, she married Robert L. Charest Sr., with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in April 2003. Together, they raised their family in their longtime home on Dumont Avenue.
An active participant in her community, Henrietta was a member of Holy Cross Parish and generously gave her time by coaching hockey and softball. Her love for sports extended to enjoying watching her children and grandchildren play. She was also very active at the gym and enjoyed walking, often stopping at Dairy Joy for a banana split.
Henrietta was the ultimate caregiver, always ensuring that family and friends had a place to go for holidays. Her table was never too small. She took great joy in becoming a grandparent, a role that she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her children, Robert L. Charest Jr. (Amy), Raymond N. Charest (Catherine), and Lorraine Y. Champagne (James); her grandchildren, Julia C. Charest and Ryan D. Charest; her sister, Lucienne Hamel, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Fernand Raymond, and her sister, Dorothy Letarte.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff on 3 West at St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion and Andwell Hospice Care for their support and care. Special thanks are also given to her roommate, Jeannette, whose companionship was greatly appreciated.
