Irene Marie Letourneau

Irene was born on February 4, 1932, in Lewiston to Joseph and Marie Gendron. She attended local schools and on February 16, 1952, married Clarence Letourneau. Together, they shared 72 years of marriage and built a wonderful life filled with family, hard work, travel, and many happy memories until Clarence's passing in April 2024.

Irene and Clarence were true partners in every sense of the word. Together, they built one of the first pool companies in the state of Maine, Merit Pools, which is now known as ABC Pools and is owned by one of their sons. While Clarence was out working and installing pools, Irene worked in the store, helping customers and doing whatever was needed. They were a team in both business and life.

After Clarence retired at the age of 55, the two enjoyed traveling together before eventually settling into a seasonal life, spending their winters in Florida and their summers in Maine.

Irene had many interests that brought her joy throughout her life. She loved to sew and knit and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed playing bingo and never passed up an opportunity to spend time at a casino. Her favorite place was the ocean, and she especially loved going to the beach, relaxing, and taking long walks along the shore.

Later in life, Irene discovered a talent for painting. She took great pleasure in creating beautiful paintings, and her talent quickly became something her family treasured. Each of her children has one of her paintings hanging in their home—a lasting reminder of their mother and the love she shared with them. Irene's greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by seven of her children: Daniel (Diane) Letourneau of Lewiston; Gary (Jane) Letourneau of Florida; Andrew (Debra) Letourneau of Colorado; Debra (Jim) Daigle of Buckfield; Peter (Karen) Letourneau of Wales; and John (Michelle) Letourneau of Mechanic Falls , Scot Letourneau of Connecticut, seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Beatrice Guimond. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence and her daughter Doris, her parents, 5 brothers and one Sister. Special thanks to Schooners Memory Care (Little Diamond) who helped take care of mom and lovingly called her queen Irene or memere and always had a stash of cookies for when our mom just needed to have her cookie . Their love and kindness will always be remembered.

A Funeral Mass honoring Irene's life will be celebrated on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul (Upper Church). Committal Services will then follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 4-7 PM at The Fortin & Pinette Group 305 Alfred A.
