She was born April 19, 1950, daughter of Noel and Alphena Gaumont.
Irene graduated from Lewiston High School in 1968. She was hired immediately after graduation as a secretary at the high school, where she worked until 1985. She then worked in the same capacity at Farwell Elementary School until her retirement in 2003. Irene was respected by staff, students and parents. She truly loved working with students, or “kiddos” of all ages. Many remember her to this day. She also enjoyed working part time selling Avon products, proud of the fact that she won a coveted “Mrs. Albee” porcelain doll award each year (14) based on sales quota.
Most anyone who knew Irene has had the pleasure of enjoying her beautiful singing voice. Singing was her greatest love. Several generations of family and friends have fond memories of sing-alongs led by Irene and her husband Ray, at Christmas and other special occasions, and she always had good jokes to tell. She sang at many weddings of friends and family. She has a fond remembrance of a neighbor’s 40th Anniversary party, where she sang in front of many Canadian family members who enjoyed her immensely.
Irene was a tireless and devoted caregiver to her husband Ray for many years, until just weeks before her passing. She always had a smile and encouraging words for anyone going through difficult times, although she had her own challenges. When friends or family were sick, you could count on Irene for offers of help and to bring food and goodies.
Irene is survived by her husband of 46 years, Raymond Nadeau; sister Marie-Jeanne St. Pierre and husband Daniel; brother Roland Gaumont and wife Joline; special brother-in-law Donald Brousseau and wife Charlene; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her beloved sister Diane Brousseau, and of course, her and Ray’s beloved dog Annie, who had brought them much joy and comfort.
