Jacqueline Muriel Dumont

AUBURN- Jacqueline Muriel “Jackie” Dumont, 94, a lifelong resident of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Bolster Heights Residential Care in Auburn surrounded by her family at her side.

Jackie was born in Lewiston on August 3, 1932, to Alexina and William Girardin. She attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1951.

After graduation, Jackie began working at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she built a remarkable 45-year career. She served in several roles before retiring as Chief Admitting Officer in 1996. During her time at the hospital, Jackie met Raymond Dumont, whom she later married. Together, they raised two sons, Albert and Andrew, and shared many wonderful years before Raymond’s passing in 1990.

Following her retirement in 1996, Jackie began one of the most treasured chapters of her life when she became a Memere to her grandson, Dakota. She embraced the role wholeheartedly and cherished every moment they spent together. Jackie and Dakota could often be found walking through Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary, admiring the birds—at least until Dakota scared them away.

Retirement also gave Jackie more time to enjoy birdwatching and renew her longtime interest in photography. She had a special fondness for red cardinals and chickadees and loved photographing Maine’s rugged coastline, lighthouses, and ocean views alongside her longtime friend, Walter Martin.

Jackie was also a familiar face at the Great Falls Balloon Festival. She especially loved retelling the story of a wayward balloon that once landed in the field across from her home. After helping with the cleanup, she received a bottle of wine and an unforgettable memory that became a favorite story for years to come.

A lifelong animal lover, Jackie often shared fond memories of growing up on a farm, riding her ponies, playing with her Border Collie, and enjoying the antics of her many cats over the years. Her pets held a special place in her heart and brought her tremendous comfort and companionship.

Jackie is survived by her children, Albert Dumont and his wife, Annette; Andrew Dumont, her grandson, Dakota Dumont, and his wife, Emily; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alexina and William Girardin; her husband, Raymond Dumont; her brothers, Conrad and Paul Girardin; her longtime friend, Walter Martin; and many beloved pets, most recently her cats, Minnie and Minole.

Though Jackie was small in stature, she had an enormous heart. Her warmth, kindness, love of family, and gift for telling memorable stories will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In honor of Jackie’s lifelong love of animals, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her memory to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in lieu of flowers. We would also like to thank Kenzie and the staff at Bolster Heights and Kim Polley of Andwell Hospice for taking great care of her.

Funeral Services honoring Jacqueline's life will be celebrated on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at The Fortin & Pinette Group. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 9-11 AM prior to the service at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, 784-4023.
