Jacqueline Rita Lauze Sherburne, 85, of Lewiston, Maine, passed away peacefully, with loved ones by her side, on December 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born and raised in Lewiston, Jacqueline was the beloved daughter of Laurette and Lucien Lauze, and her roots in this community ran deep.
In 1962, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Norman Sherburne, and together they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and adventure. Their greatest accomplishment was the home they created—a house Jacqueline designed herself and helped Norman build with her own hands. It became the heart of family life, a warm and welcoming place where her children grew up surrounded by love.
Jacqueline was a woman of many talents and passions. She had an eye for beauty and a gift for creating it, whether through her breathtaking gardens or the floral arrangements that brightened every room. Her artistic spirit extended to painting, and her work graced the walls of her home and even St. Mary’s Hospital. She loved sharing her creativity with others, participating in sidewalk art festivals and bringing joy to her community.
Family was always at the center of Jacqueline’s world. She raised her children to appreciate the outdoors, filling their childhood with hikes through Maine’s woods, blueberry picking on summer days, camping trips under the stars, and countless adventures that became treasured memories. She embraced life’s simple pleasures—apple picking in her backyard, fishing, golfing, playing tennis, and spending winters in Florida with Norman.
Jacqueline is survived by her husband Norman; her children David Sherburne and his spouse, Jonelle Sherburne, Lisa Sherburne Murray and her spouse, Robert Murray III; grandchildren Keifer Schulz and his spouse, Alisha Schulz, Cooper Schulz, and Parker Sherburne; and great-grandchildren Charlie Schulz, Theo Schulz, and Francis Schulz. She is also survived by her brother Norman Lauze. She was predeceased by her son Norman Sherburne Jr. and her sister Claudette Rodrigue.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation for Jacqueline on Friday, December 19th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a service at 5:00 p.m., at The Fortin & Pinette Group Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Andwell Health Partners in Jacqueline’s memory.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Karen Pelletier and the entire Andwell staff for their compassionate care and support in Jacqueline’s final days.
