Born in Oakland, CA, on March 6,1962 as the only child of Henry C. Bailey and Gertrude F. (St. Pierre) Bailey, Joy lived up to her name from the moment she was born. She moved to Lewiston, Maine with her parents at the age of 3. At the age of 7, her step-father Henry A. Morin, Sr. entered her life and was a father figure to her from then on.
She graduated from nursing school with her associates degree in 1990, and earned her BSN in 1996. She began her career first as a nurse on the medical/surgical unit before following her calling of providing mental health care. She served many roles in the field, including psychiatric home care nurse and then manager, outpatient program manager and finally, working for the VA for the last 15 years.
In addition to her 36 years as a nurse, she also served in the US Army Reserves from 1993-2004, where she attained the rank of Captain. With her unique understanding and compassion, combined with her experience in the reserves, she truly shined in her role at the VA. She was a tireless advocate for her veterans and a vital team member for her colleagues. She had just completed her service to the VA on June 30 and was looking forward to her retirement.
In her personal life, being a mother and a mimi was her greatest love. The value of her family was something she took very seriously, and that “family” encompassed everyone lucky enough to be loved by her. She kept her partner, Lisa, and their dog, Brandi, in constant motion. She loved to travel, loved the ocean, always needed a full social calendar and most especially enjoyed the beauty of the night sky. Joy brought the life to every party. Whenever she was around, you knew you’d be filled up with her light, her laughter, her love, and plenty of snacks.
She is survived by her loving partner of 19 years Lisa Bogdahn, her daughter Maranda (Landry) Pennini and husband Daniel Pennini, her son Kyle Landry, her grandchildren Owen Pennini, Alexia, Mabel and Everlyn Landry, her step-father Henry A. Morin, her half brothers Gerry Bailey and Terry Bailey and wife Jeanette Bailey.
She is predeceased by her mother, Gertrude F. Bailey and father, Henry C. Bailey.
Joy's visitation will be held on Monday, July 13th from 4-7PM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
