Lewiston-Juliette P. Roberge ,94, of Clover Manor in Auburn, died Tuesday August 29 2017, into the welcoming arms of the Most Merciful Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family, and died suffering from a broken heart, after the very recent loss of her sweetheart Phil. They had been married for 71 years. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, June 22, 1923, the daughter of Albert Ste. Marie and Alphonsine Maine Bergeron.
Upon his discharge from the Army, Phil was allowed to court a pretty young lady that he had fallen in love with, prior to the war. He married his sweetheart Juliette P. St. Marie on October 5, 1946. Within a short time they had three children, Robert L., Claudette M., and Roger P. Roberge. They lived in Lewiston and together realized the American dream, raising their family in the peace that he had helped to secure by serving his country. They were very devout communicants of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. They raised their family with those same principals held firmly in their hearts. Jesus Christ and His Holy Mother Mary were ever on their minds and hearts. Juliette is now forever at peace with her Phil and siblings.
Juliette and Phil had three children; Robert and his wife Norma of Lewiston, Claudette Gorey of Lewiston and Roger and his wife Lorraine of Lewiston; her grandchildren Kristine Roberge, Nicole Roberge, Jeffrey Gorey, Cindy Gorey and husband Corey Gagnier, Adam Roberge and wife Kym, Nicholas Roberge and wife Allison; ten great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Caleb Gorey, Drew Nichols, Josie Gagnier, Hunter Nichols, Macie Gagnier, Brylee and Isabella, Corbin and Lauren Roberge.
Throughout their early married years lean times required Juliette to help supplement family income with work in local shops. She was glad to take on additional work on top of raising three children. The extra income came in handy, as Phil was working in very competitive piece work shoe shops. With perseverance and hard work they succeeded and finally were able to retire. Phil loved to play cribbage with anyone, especially when he would skunk a new victim. I think that Juliette enjoyed letting him win, she was a very good player and being on the losing end of a game did not bother her, as long as Phil was happy.
After the children had grown up, married and on their own, Phil and Juliette enjoyed retirement years vacationing and traveling to many places, their favorite being to Florida during winter months. She loved a vacation in Germany with her sister Pauline, one that she spoke of frequently. Juliette also enjoyed going on cruises in the Caribbean and to Hawaii with her other sisters and friends. Phil did not like to travel on the water, it reminded him of the long weeks on troop transports in the Pacific during WWII. He did not stand in Juliette’s way though and always supported her desire to travel, so he stayed home alone puttering around the house.
Juliette was one of seven children; predeceased by her parents, her sweetheart and faithful husband Louis P. Roberge, her siblings; Annette Gosselin, Roland Ste. Marie, Germaine Roberge, Therese Bergeron, Pauline Dugal, Normand Ste. Marie.
