

LEWISTON- Leon R. Tardif, 86, of 25 Edward Avenue, Lewiston died peacefully on Saturday April 30, 2011 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lewiston on November 2, 1924 the son of Arsene and Eugenie (Dumais) Tardif and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He was one of the first graduates of Robert’s Academy. He then entered the United States Army during WWII and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Following the war, he was a truck driver with several companies including the former St. Johnsbury Trucking for twenty-nine years retiring in 1984. Following his retirement he enjoyed winters in Flagler Beach and Daytona Beach Florida. He also enjoyed and was very dedicated to his family as well as golfing at Prospect Hill Golf Course where he was a member. Leon was a faithful Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Cross Church. He is survived by his wife the former Therese Fortin Turmenne of Lewiston; one daughter Susan M. Poole and her husband Mark of Monmouth; a step-son Robert R. Turmenne and his wife Beverly of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren Michelle Foster and Mark Turmenne both of Denver, Colorado, Laurel Whitmer of Decatur, Georgia and Ashley Shannak of Brookline, N.H.; nine grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
