Lucia was born on March 20, 1940, in Dennistown, Maine, the daughter of Phillip and Irene (Barriault) Nadeau. She moved to Waterbury, Connecticut, and attended St. Anne's and Sacred Heart Schools.
In August of 1957, she married Rosaire Gauthier, and they were happily married until his passing in 2017. Together, they moved to Naugatuck, Connecticut, where Lucia raised six children as a stay-at-home mom. In 1981, they relocated to Greene, Maine.
Lucia later obtained her GED and worked several jobs before becoming a nurse's aide, eventually earning her certification as a CNA at d'Youville Nursing Home in Lewiston, Maine. She excelled in this work, having cared for her mother and father-in-law for many years.
Lucia cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found joy in caring for others, reading, and spending time outdoors enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
After retiring, she moved to Jackman to ensure her mother could be placed in a nursing home with her mother's sister, later returning to Lewiston after her husband's passing. Following several strokes in 2018-2019, she spent her remaining days at Montello Manor, where the staff appreciated her cheerful disposition and her frequent expressions of longing to reunite with her husband in Heaven.
Lucia is predeceased by her husband Rosaire, her parents, siblings Angeline Thomas and Sylvia Gauthier, and her children Donna and Gary Gauthier.
She is survived by her children: Diane Seymour and her husband Raymond, Nancy Gauthier, Shirley Daigle and her husband Robert, Sharon Higgins and her husband Terry, and Robert Gauthier. She also leaves behind her sister Patricia Copeland, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Her ashes will be placed with her husband at the Veterans Memorial cemetery in Augusta, ME.
A Celebration of Life will take place next Spring.
