

She was born in Lewiston, May 19 1924 the eldest daughter of the late Brigadier General Charles M. and Catherine (Conley) Filliettaz. She attended St. Joseph's School and the Ava Maria School in Sabattus then continued her education graduating from Lewiston High School in 1944. Following her education she was employed for the Continental Mill until 1961, and it was then she began her career at Androscoggin Savings Bank for over 20 years. She began skiing Sugarloaf in its early years beginning in 1951. She was an avid skier having been a member of the Lewiston Auburn Ski Association and traveled with them to ski the Alps in Europe in 1961 She then became a ski instructor at Lost Valley in the 1960's teaching skiing not only to her nieces and nephews but many children from the Lewiston Auburn area. She married Francis V. Crowley on March 21, 1970 and together they enjoyed travel and summers in Monmouth until his passing in 1982. She also enjoyed many winters in Arizona with friends and in later years with her brothers and sisters in North Fort Myers, FL where she enjoyed the beach and the pool. Betty had a zest for life and a classic style all her own which will be sadly missed by all who touched her life. She was a life time parishioner of the former St. Joseph's Church, a member of the CMMC Women's Hospital Association and the Women's Literary Union. Her hobbies included tole painting, stenciling, and golf.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan Lynch and her husband Paul and,Claire Filliettaz all of Lewiston, 2 brothers Henry Filliettaz and his wife Betty of Hampden, Richard Filliettaz and his wife Sylvia of Cape Neddick.,and 3 nieces Karen Perry and her husband, Jonathan of Hampden, Susan Chatin and her husband, Eric of Saugatuck, Michigan, and Mary-Beth LaBarre and her husband, Paul of Auburn; 7 nephews James Lynch and his wife Jennifer of Auburn, Brian Lynch and his wife Darlene of Bow, NH., Kevin F. Lynch of Auburn, Charles Filliettaz III and his wife Holland of Los Angeles, CA., and Cape Elizabeth, Patrick Filliettaz and his wife Sara of Cape Elizabeth, Peter Filliettaz and his wife Lisa of Kennebunk and Michael Filliettaz and his wife Cynthia of Cape Neddick as well as great nieces and great nephews and her sister in law Louise Hammond Maheux and many friends that all touched her life including Tim Rowe and Nola Downing. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her special aunt Louise E. Conley, who died in September 1974 and her brother, Daniel H. Filliettaz in July 1970, and her 2 step daughters, Sheila Crowley and Cathy Gagne. Betty's family would like to thank both Dr. Michael Issac and Susan Bowie and their staffs of St Mary's Hospital as well as the Hospice House for the exceptional care given to her during her illness.
