LEWISTON — Maureen Miller of Lewiston died August 12, 2026, at the tender age of 96. Healthy and sharp until the end (the heart only has so many beats), she passed peacefully with Milano cookies by her bedside and "Murder, She Wrote" tuned on the TV.
Maureen and her husband, Dick Miller, who died many years ago, moved from New York to Lewiston in 1967. They eventually owned and operated Priscilla Turner Rugs/Cardinal Enterprises. The family knows of no other person who lived in Lewiston for more than 60 years and still spoke “Bronx.”
Maureen bowled for decades and captained several teams, including “The Hookers.” (Nothing scandalous — see above reference to the hooked-rug company.)
Having spent much of her childhood in New York City “movie houses” with her father, a projectionist, Maureen was the undisputed family champion of the pink pie in Trivial Pursuit.
She was truly one-of-a-kind and will be deeply missed. But Maureen-isms and the stories that surround them are legendary and will live on forever:
“Getting old is no fun. I hope you never have to do it.”
“See ya when I see ya.”
“Why take down the [artificial] tree just to put it back up next Christmas?”
(The tree remains fully decorated, with the lights on, as of this writing.)
Maureen leaves her three adult children — Rick, Steve, and Patricia — to their own devices, along with seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, two ex-daughters-in-law, and a bunch of nieces and nephews.
While she loved them all, the family suspects that the inordinate number of dogs and the one six-toed cat who passed through the house over six decades were much preferred.
The family prays that Dick is ready for this longtime coming reunion.
Maureen’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 25, from 9:30AM-10:30AM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately after, beginning at 11:00AM at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus Street, Lewiston. Maureen will be laid to rest with her husband at St Peter Cemetery following Mass. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Maureen’s life.
