Omer A. Canuel 1931-2021 Lewiston- Omer A. Canuel, 90, passed away peacefully at CMMC after a short illness, surrounded by the warmth of his loved ones on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was born on January 21, 1931 in Lewiston, the son of the late Carmen (Berube) & Omer J. Canuel. He was educated in Lewiston schools. He welcomed his only child, a daughter, Lil (Canuel) Morin in December 1948. Omer enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and retired as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of serving his country. During his retirement, Omer spent his time helping other people in many different ways. He truly cherished his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Omer enjoyed keeping up on current events via watching the news and reading the newspaper daily from front to back, and most times twice. He looked forward to watching the Wheel of Fortune in the evenings and old TV shows. He had a love of music his entire life. Omer married Theresa Bilodeau in 1982 and his family grew with the addition of her 5 children and their children. Omer and Terry liked going dancing together earlier in their relationship and often played the board game “Heaven” with Lil and her husband Marcel. In summary, in the words of Frank Sinatra, Omer lived his life the only way he knew how, “My Way”. Omer is survived by his beloved daughter Lil Morin & her husband Marcel; his sister Muriel Minkowsky; his brother Roland Canuel & wife Anita; his 4 grandchildren: Michael Morin, Greg Morin, Tim Morin & Amy Morin; his granddaughters-in-law: Jennifer Townes Morin, Holly Fisher Morin & Sarah Stewart Morin; his 7 great-grandchildren: Dylan Morin & his wife Maegan, Mason Morin & his long-time girlfriend Sarah Chaput, TJ Morin, Reese Morin, Katie Morin, Lilyanna Gaddy & Ally Morin; as well as many nieces & nephews; his stepchildren: Cathy Czarnecki & her husband Mark, Raymond Bilodeau & his wife Carol, Donald Bilodeau & his wife Brenda, Jo-Ann Brown & her husband Ray & Lorie Sutton in addition to many bonus grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Jeannine Monier & her husband Al; his brother Roger & his wife Jean, his great-grandson Spencer Morin, his granddaughter Dawna Bilodeau, his brother-in-law Carroll Minkowsky & his nephew Gary Lajoie. This is a photo taken on a visit to Pepere on a Father’s Day!! I have always loved this photo!! He truly lived life his way on his terms and so much can be learned from that! He had a will power unlike anyone I have ever met!! Love you Pepere RIP till we meet again!!
