

Patricia C. Sylvain, 80 of Lewiston, Maine passed peacefully on June 30th at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Jackman, Maine on October 17th, 1932. She was the only daughter of the late Archille and Claire Caron.
She attended St. Peter’s School and Lewiston High School. She was married to Brigadier General Richard D. Sylvain, USA (ret.) on July 1, 1950 at St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral in Lewiston, Maine. She was a wonderful caring daughter to her parents. She was a loving devoted wife and best friend to her husband and a loving and caring mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was employed at The Star Surplus on Lisbon Street for more than twenty years as a salesperson, buyer and part-time manager. After her retirement she spent her summers at her cottage at Taylor Pond enjoying much of her time with family, especially her grandchildren. After her husband’s retirement she enjoyed wintering in Florida where she enjoyed the sea, sand and sunshine with her husband, family and many friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and experiencing different places often visiting family and friends along the way. She enjoyed movies, art, dancing, shopping and storytelling. She was very involved with supporting agencies that benefited the homeless. She regularly participated in donations to St. Martin de Porres Residence for Homeless Men and Women. She is survived by her husband of 63 years BG Richard (Dick) D. Sylvain USA (ret.), a son Richard (Rick) D. Sylvain, Jr. and his wife Jennifer from Owego, NY and two daughters, Sandra A. Russo and her husband Ronald of Port St. Lucie, FL and CAPT Tina L. Ortiz, USN (ret.) and her husband LTC Carlos Ortiz, USA (ret.) also of Port St. Lucie, FL., her grandchildren Maribel Ortiz, Amber Thibault, Diana Peselman, Kristin Nawrocki, John Rocheleau, Catelyn Fagan, Jennifer Russo, Carlos Ortiz, Jr., Leah Campbell, Lauren Russo and David Sylvain and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased in life by her parents, a son Kenneth B. Sylvain and a grandson Brent D. Sylvain. Patricia’s family is deeply appreciative of the amazing support and compassionate care provided by the nursing staff from Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 6th at The Fortin Group funeral home located at 70 Horton Street, Lewiston. Public viewing hours will begin at 10:00 AM.
