Auburn, ME - Raymond Gosselin, 86, of Lewiston passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn, Maine as a result of complications associated with dementia. He was born in Lewiston, Maine to Arthur J. Gosselin and Delia (Hamel) Gosselin on May 29, 1939. He was the 7th child of a family of nine and a lifelong resident of Lewiston. Raymond attended St. Peter’s school for his elementary education and graduated from St. Dominic’s Regional High School in 1958.
On August 1, 1960, Ray was inducted into the Army for the purposes of active-duty training and was honorably discharged on March 5, 1961. On October 7, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Pauline Labrecque, making Lewiston their home. Together they raised four children and were blessed with 57 years of marriage, prior to her death in November, 2018. Ray worked at the Thom McAn shoe store in the former Lewison Mall for many years after which he was employed by Geiger Brothers through to his retirement having achieved 25 years with the company.
Ray liked doing “paint-by number” pictures, reading a good Danielle Steele book, listening to French music and took great pride in tending to the many plants that he had around the house. Socializing with people was one of his favorite things to do, no matter where he was. Ray particularly enjoyed spending time with a core group of friends, affectionately known as “The Group”.
Above all, Ray treasured being with family the most. As Dad and Pepère, he was always there to provide support and encouragement. Watching his five grandchildren grow and celebrate their achievements was one of his greatest sources of happiness.
Ray is survived by his two daughters, Rachel (Gosselin) Belanger and husband, Norm; Diane (Gosselin) Cavanaugh and husband, Stephen; sons, Norman Gosselin and wife, Jennifer and Marc Gosselin. Pepère will be missed by his five grandchildren: Stephanie Belanger, Christopher Belanger, Christine Belanger, Rebecca (Cavanaugh) Cruz and husband, Christopher, and Nicholas Cavanaugh. Ray also leaves behind his brothers, Lucien and wife, Anna Rose Gosselin and Maurice and wife, Linda Gosselin as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Pauline, sisters Rita Gosselin and Therese Giem; brothers Roland, Robert, Armand and Roger Gosselin, sisters-in-laws, Laurette Gosselin and Shirley Gosselin and brother-in-law Richard Giem.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff of the Carlow and Dublin units of the Clover Living Center and the team from Beacon Hospice who were part of Ray’s care and comfort through to the end.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 3 - 6 pm at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11 am at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 122 Ash Street Lewiston. Committal Prayers will follow at St Peter's Cemetery, Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations in Ray’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine.
