

1932 - 2023
Lewiston - Raymond P. Marcotte, age 91, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning August 12th at his home after a long illness. He was born in Auburn on January 30, 1932, one of six children born to Gerard and Rita (Snow) Marcotte. Ray was educated in Auburn schools, graduated from Edward Little High School and remained a lifelong resident of the Lewiston-Auburn community. He was a military veteran having served his country in the Air Force from 1951 until his Honorable Discharge in 1955. On June 4, 1955, he married the former Alvera DeSanctis of Chisolm and together they settled in the Lewiston-Auburn area to raise their family.
Most of Ray's working years were spent as a full-time truck driver. He worked a number of years for Railway Express, Sanborn's Motor Express, Saxonville Lumber, SPC Transport and Ryder Transportation until his retirement in 2010 from trucking. He then went to work for his oldest son Jeff's business as a Warehouse Supervisor at Boxes And Bags Unlimited in Lewiston in 2011 until his full retirement in 2020.
Among his favorite enjoyments were fishing, hunting, playing golf, time at the casino, bowling, both candlepin and 10- pin and good family times in the summer at Thomas Point Beach
as well as his uncle's camp on Thompson Lake. For many years, he and Alvera enjoyed extended Winter getaways at Medeira Beach in St. Petersburg, FL.
He had been a longtime parishioner at the former St. Joseph's Church in Lewiston and was a member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge and the New Auburn American Legion.
Ray was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who spent a lot of time with his family and friends and who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Alvera Marcotte of Lewiston; his four children Brenda Gauvin and husband Yvan of Lewiston, Jeffrey Marcotte and wife Linda, also of Lewiston,
Randy Marcotte and his significant other Diane Nason of Alfred and Pamela Welch and husband Frank of Minot; five grandchildren Jessica Dube, Heather Colopy and her husband Blake,
Brandon Marcotte, Cameron Marcotte and Reagan Appiarius and her husband Owen; three great-grandchildren Hartlie Grenier and her fiance Chad Kemp, Marshall Colopy and Vera Colopy;
two great-great grandchildren Karsyn and River Kemp; one sister Anita Schenk of Lewiston and many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by one sister Dora Thibodeau and three brothers Laurier Marcotte, Armand Marcotte and Leonard Marcotte.
