

Auburn- Richard T. Ames, 86, passed away on Saturday May 5, 2018 in Auburn. He was born in Auburn on December 18, 1931 the son of the late Thomas and Isabelle (Monachan) Ames. He was educated in Auburn schools and on January 3, 1953 he married Donna May Kilby.
Rick was a US Army veteran and after his service to his country went to work for the Maine State Highway Department and the Maine Turnpike Authority. After his career with the State of Maine Rick established Ames Sport Shop in 1983 where he continued to work at until 2017.
He was a Master Mason and was a member for 51 years. His early hobbies included coaching and umpiring baseball and also was a football referee. Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, spending time at camp and hosting the family Christmas party.
He is survived by two sons; Scott and his wife Carolyn of Auburn and Ron and his wife Julie of Poland, one daughter, Judy and her husband John of Poland, five grandchildren; Jennifer, Kevin, Darcy, Sarah and Kristen, six great grandchildren; Tristin, Gavin, Skyler, Alex, Ellie and Paige, and by a sister Reta Graham.
He was predeceased by his wife Donna and by his sisters; Virginia and Martha.
