

LEWISTON- Roy W. Picard, 67, of North Turner, died peacefully with his loving wife by his side late Sunday night Jan. 12. He passed at the Hospice House in Auburn where he’d been for two days. His wish was to remain at home for as long as possible during his seven month battle with cancer. He was born in Lewiston, on June 10, 1946, the son of the late Levite and Therese Picard. He attended several schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1965, where he was a proud member of two state championship football teams. He then pursued his education further at Thomas College and the University of Maine in Orono where he met the love of his life Charlene Moore. Roy and Charlene married on October 25, 1969, had two children and celebrated over 44 years of marriage. Roy’s greatest enjoyment in life was being with his wife, children, and three grandchildren. He was so proud of Bill and Aimee. He retired in 1999 after working 28 years with the State of Maine Department of Human Services. Roy enjoyed playing golf as a member of Martindale and Turner Highlands. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends for many years. Roy always said he was happiest at home with his family. He was particularly fond of teaching his grandsons Noah and Jacob how to play back alley bridge. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots, and professional golf with family. He is survived by his beloved wife Charlene Moore Picard of North Turner; two children, William Picard of Turner, and Aimee Picard Gibbs and her husband Jim of North Turner; and three grandchildren, Noah, Jacob, and Matthew Gibbs. He will be missed by life-long friend John Bouchard and wife Marilyn; also by cousins: Pat Zebley and husband Mike, Mark Turgeon and wife Sonia, Harry Turgeon and wife Judy, and Eddie Turgeon and wife Clairjane; and many cousins in Canada, especially Joel Rioux and wife Yvonne, Father Patrice Picard, and Marie Mai Desjardins. He was predeceased by his father, Levite Picard, mother, Therese Turgeon Picard, three siblings at birth: Rudy, Diane and Joseph, and three uncles: Emile, Dan, and Roger Turgeon and his wife Florentine. Memorial services honoring Roy’s life will be held SATURDAY January 18th at 1:00PM with Pastor Roger Cousineau presiding at the funeral home.
