Sylvia Gray Hawks

Sylvia Gray Hawks, 76, of Lewiston, Maine, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Central Maine Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, to Peter and Pearl Gray.

Sylvia graduated from Lewiston High School and went on to dedicate over 51 years of her life to Bates College. Her most recent role at Bates was as an Academic Administrative Assistant II at Pettingill Hall, from which she retired in June 2018.

Outside of work, Sylvia enjoyed simple pleasures like walking with her dear friend Beverly, having phone conversations with her friends, and spending quality time with her family. She held a special place in her heart for her grandson Ahren Rivard, her special nephew Jim Sidelinger and Keely Micomyiza cherishing every moment with them.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Rivard (Darrell) of Lewiston, and her sister, Shirley Sidelinger (Jim) of Westbrook. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia's circle of close friends, including Beverly, Sylvia, Nancy, and Yvonne, will also mourn her loss.

She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Pearl Gray, her brother Earl Gray, and her sister-in-law Maxine Gray.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Fortin & Pinette Group on 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, Maine, on March 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sylvia's memory to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.

Sylvia will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
