Wendell started his career as Animal Control Officer in 2000 with the Lewiston Police department, while also serving other local towns such as Turner, Greene, Leeds and Wales. Where over the years he’s taken pride in being able to help the communities he’s been a part of.
Wendell spent years on the baseball and softball field where he coached for many years and traveled around the east coast with his daughter, Delanie, for travel ball teams.
Wendell was known for his contagious laugh and raspy voice, his love for his family, never a bad time for a classic dad joke and in the summers, you could typically find him on his motorcycle somewhere.
Wendell is survived by his daughter, Delanie; his nephew Bryan MacDonald and his wife Sara; his younger brother and sister, Scott Strout and Cynthia MacDonald and all of his wonderful close friends he made throughout his journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, ME, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 12 - 2 pm and again from 5 - 8 pm. An additional memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 12 - 3 pm at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family has teamed up with the Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine where “Wendells Stray Pals Fund” has been set up to help support injured or sick strays brought in by other law enforcement officers or community members. These donations will go toward the medical care these pets need to have a healthy quality of life. This will help alleviate financial strain on small towns and local animal shelters.
To donate to this fund, you can call the Animal Emergency Clinic during operation hours to make a donation over the phone, stop by the clinic in person or send any donations by mail.
