LEXINGTON – John Edrington, 69, was born on March 8, 1950 in Columbia, SC and passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Providence Hospital. He was the son of the late Martha Koon Edrington and John G. Edrington, Jr.
After graduating from Eau Claire High School, "Big John" began a career at Eastern Airlines where he received several recognitions and awards. After 23 years, he retired as Chief Agent. His desire to help others led him to volunteer for Lexington County Fire Service, which turned into a full-time career that he loved. He found a second family within the brotherhood of the Fire Service. He was awarded Firefighter of the Year and Officer of the Year numerous times, he eventually retired as Battalion Chief.
Many in the community also knew John for his ability to fix anything which led to his side job in heating and air work. He was always willing to go the extra mile to help others.
John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Frances Sweat Edrington; daughters, Jennifer Edrington Taylor (Mark) and Julie Edrington-Fisher (Jason); grandchildren, Judson Taylor, Madeline Taylor, Carter Edrington, Davis Fisher and Coleman Fisher. He is also survived by his brother, David Edrington (Mary Ann) and nieces, Kelly Edrington and Kayla Edrington.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the same location. Officiating will be family member, Pastor Betsy Koon. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Burn Foundation of America; 3614 J.
