Alex Ray Fernell

Ray graduated from Columbia High School and went on to serve in the US Navy, carrying forward a steady sense of duty and resolve. He later retired from Southern Bell, where he worked as a Project Manager — respected for his strong work ethic, sound judgment, and the kind of practical wisdom that he shared with others.

Beyond his professional life, Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman who found lasting enjoyment in the outdoors. A seeker of knowledge, he took genuine pleasure in learning new skills and exploring new hobbies, meeting life with curiosity and an easy humor that stayed with him through the years.

Ray was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a reflection of his connection to his work, his community, and the people alongside whom he spent so much of his life.

He is survived by his children, Rachel Novak (Doug), Cindy Parsons (Dusty), and Mark Fernell (Wanda); 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; his sister, Harriet Burton; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marianne N. Fernell, and a brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Fernell.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Lexington Hospice House, nurses Shamika, Annie, Bonnie, and Mr. James. A special thank you to Dr. Braddy and his staff for their exceptional and compassionate care.
