Alvin Frances Selby “Bea” Amsler, age 98, died February 24, 2021 at the Greenway at Still Hopes, West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born in Orange, Virginia, on May 14, 1922, and was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Selby, Jr. and Alvin Carter Brooking. She married Charles Dunkle Amsler on January 27, 1943; he died February 28, 2000.
Mrs. Amsler was a graduate of Orange High School and attended Lynchburg College. While her husband was stationed in India during World War II, she lived in Virginia and worked for the Orange County health department. Following the war, Mr. and Mrs. Amsler moved to North East, Pennsylvania, where they were members of the First Presbyterian Church, Lakeview Country Club, and many civic organizations. In 1987, they moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina where they were members of Providence Presbyterian Church and Sea Pines Country Club. They moved to Lexington, South Carolina in 1999 and belonged to Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, where Mrs. Amsler enjoyed volunteering.
She was a wonderful mother, and she loved spending time with her family, playing bridge, playing golf, solving puzzles, reading, gardening, and dancing with her beloved Charlie.
In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Amsler was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Lucy Selby Jenkins and Onnie Selby Daane and her nephew, Benjamin S. Jenkins.
She is survived by her three children: Susan Amsler Zerwick (James), Charles Dunkle Amsler, Jr. (Margaret), and Allen Burton Amsler II (Madge); her five grandchildren: Brent Pistner (Erin), Robert Blakely (Courtney), Alison Blakely, Kaitlyn Ackley (Andrew), and Zachary Amsler; her four great grandchildren: Ella Pistner, Liam Pistner, Simone Blakely, and Vivienne Blakely; and her two nieces: Elizabeth Walz Campbell (William) and Mary Jenkins Peek.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Interment will be at Graham Cemetery, Orange, VA. Memorial gifts may be given to Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church.
