Lexington, South Carolina: Computer systems manager and beloved family man Andres “Andy” Abejero Abole died unexpectedly at his home on April 5, 2021. Born on July 20, 1955 in Quezon City, Philippines, he was the eldest of five children born to Andres H. Abole and Florencia A. Abole of Balangiga, Eastern Samar, Philippines.
His father joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, and Andy and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1958 to join his father. Andy grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, and Charleston, South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina Columbia. He was employed by the Computer Services Department at the University of South Carolina in 1978, working in several positions before retiring as a production control manager for the department in 2011.
Andy, sometimes also fondly referred to as Andre, enjoyed a lifelong love of reading historical fiction, nonfiction and science fiction books. He especially reveled in series novels by authors such as Bernard Cornwall, C.S. Forrester, George R.R. Martin and Robert Heinlen, whereby he would read every book in the series.
A devoted hobbyist, Andy was a collector and painter of military miniature figures, which showcased his love for military history and the fun and strategy of miniature war gaming with friends in Columbia and enthusiasts around the state.
Always a movie buff, he enjoyed watching movies of all genres -- historical series, classics, war dramas, fantasies and science fiction, especially the Star Wars saga.
He was a dedicated dad, “Lolo” and loyal friend. Andy was also a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and Kansas City Chiefs devotee. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren – a granddaughter and three grandsons, and he was excited about the new baby on the way.
Always quiet and accommodating, Andy was genuinely a kind and caring person, with a generous spirit. He will be greatly missed, especially by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Abole Jacobson (Peter) of Yonkers, New York, and Nikki Abole Hulion (Jason) of Lexington, SC; sisters, Cynthia Abole of Charleston and Jane Abole Dobbins (Howard) of Hanahan, SC; and a niece and nephews. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Callie Anne Jacobson, Carter Bruce Hulion and Davis Bennett Hulion.
To honor Andy’s life, family and friends will gather to hold a visitation on Saturday, April 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 N. Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
