LANDRUM – Aveline Elise Sox “Avie” went to heaven at sunset on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in her home in Landrum, SC.
She was born January 8, 2015 to her father, Kyle A. Sox and mother, Lucy M. Willms in Lexington, SC. Avie is the granddaughter of Marvin W. and Renee B. Sox and Robert K. and Rusty R. Willms, and she is the great-granddaughter of Peggy C. Sox, Alice B. Shealy and Nancy V. Willms.
At just 14 months old, Avie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. After treatment at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and the Medical University of South Carolina, she was declared cancer free in February 2017. Avie and her family and her friends lived fearlessly for six months before cancer returned. Her bright spirit and sweet smile endeared her to everyone she met.
She loved hiking to waterfalls, swimming in cold mountain streams, playing at the beach, swinging in every swing, petting animals of any kind, stealing “wildflowers”, hugging her grandparents, and hosting rowdy dance parties in her living room. She did not love wearing pants, taking naps, nor eating meat, except bacon! Our precious child is loved by many and gone much too soon.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. Davids Church Rd., West Columbia, SC 29170. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the church. Memorial donations can be made to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 7 Medical Park Rd., Columbia, SC 29203 and/or Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Carolina, 706 Grove Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, (864) 235-0506.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
