Barbara Lee Campbell

Barbara pursued her education with purpose and perseverance, graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School in Richmond, Virginia, and spending one year at Virginia Union University. She completed her Registered Nurse training at Harlem Hospital School of Nursing in New York City in 1957. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York—milestones that reflected both her steady resolve and her desire to serve others with skill and care. She worked in nursing for over 40 years until her retirement from New York City Health & Hospitals System as a Nurse Epidemiologist.

On July 20, 1957, she married Edward Campbell in Richmond, Virginia, and from this union came two daughters, Casandra Rene and Calandra Yvette. They were married for 48 years, until Edward's death in 2006. A woman of deep faith and generous spirit, Barbara’s devotion to her church was a guiding force throughout her life. She gave of herself freely, remaining extremely active in church life and offering compassion in ways both seen and quiet. In the community where she lived, she took special care of seniors, extending warmth, dignity, and practical help with the kind of steady kindness that leaves a lasting mark.

Barbara also embraced life with joy. She loved traveling and spending time with her family, and she found simple pleasures in bowling and crafting. Those who knew her best will remember not only her wisdom and resilience, but also her quick wit and the bright, well-timed humor that could lighten a room—an uplifting presence that encouraged others to meet life with hope.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Casandra Rene Campbell and Calandra Yvette Branch (Rev. Isidoa Branch Jr.); her grandchildren, Isidoa Branch III and Yvette Rene Branch; her brother, Peter B. Walker Jr.; her stepsister, Charlene Evans; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Campbell; parents, Rev. Peter B. Walker, Sr. and Sadie E. Walker; her stepmother, Deloriese Walker; and her sisters, Mildred V. Holmes and Vivian D. Brown.

A private graveside service will be held at Florida National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
