Barbara Brickle Floyd

Barbara Brickle Floyd, 86, was born October 17, 1939, in Orangeburg, SC, and passed away peacefully at her home in Lexington, SC, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. She was the daughter of Clyde Raymond Brickle and Minnie Bolen Brickle.

Barbara grew up in Orangeburg, SC, and graduated from Orangeburg High School. She then attended nursing school at the Medical University of South Carolina, graduating in 1960. Her nursing career spanned over 30 years and touched lives across every stage of life. Beginning as a Labor and Delivery nurse and later continuing in geriatric care and hospice, Barbara brought compassion, kindness, and genuine care to every patient she served. She treated her patients like family, leaving a lasting impression on all those entrusted to her care.

Barbara had many hobbies, but in her later years, her favorite was crafting. She loved creating special gifts for family and friends, putting thought and love into everything she made. She also loved to travel the world. She was fortunate to see some of the most beautiful places with her husband, Jimmy, her sister, Linda, and her brother-in-law, Tommy. But of all the places she traveled, her favorite destination was the beach. She often spoke fondly of the memories made during summers at the beach with her family and of shagging with her husband.

Barbara was deeply devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured the time they shared together. Holidays, birthdays, family gatherings, and the simple moments spent together became memories she held close to her heart. She loved being surrounded by their toys, games and laughter. She took great joy in making lasting memories with them and called them her greatest blessings.

She also cherished her friendships. Barbara had a special gift for creating friendships that lasted a lifetime. She formed meaningful connections wherever life took her and made an effort to nurture those relationships. Many of her friends became like family, and the love and loyalty she shared with them remained constant. She was the kind of friend who cared deeply, remembered the little things, and was always ready with a kind word, a listening ear, or a smile.

Barbara’s faith in Jesus Christ was at the heart of her life. She loved the Lord and was unwavering in her faith, prayerful in every season, and trusting in His promises. She faithfully lifted her family and those she loved in prayer, finding comfort and strength in the Lord through both joyful seasons and difficult ones. She was grateful for the hope she had in Christ and the promise of eternal life with Him.

Barbara is survived by her son, Jay Floyd of Lexington; her daughter, Jo-Dee Herbert (Eric) of Jamestown; her son, Jeff R. Floyd of Lexington; her grandchildren, Bo Herbert (Amanda), Josh Herbert (Laurin), Brandee Adams (Justin), Tristan Floyd (Alicia), and Jalynn Floyd (Charles Wilkie); her sister, Linda Ann Hensley (Tommy) of Wilmington, NC; and her beloved Cavapoo, Angel. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, James Hammond Floyd.

Barbara was deeply loved by her family and friends, and her absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled. Her unwavering faith in Christ grants us the promise we will see her again. Until then, she will be remembered in the laughter around the dinner table, the stories shared at family gatherings, the memories of summers at the beach, the thoughtful gifts she created, and in all the little moments that now mean so much. Her love will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in every person fortunate enough to have known her.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. A memorial service will be held at Harvest Church, 4865 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072, on September 5th, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
