

Barbara Hutto Poole Thomas, 86, of Gaston, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023. The visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church in Gaston with the interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church, 1477 W E Jeffcoat Road, Gaston, SC 29053.
Barbara was born on May 28, 1937 in Gaston to the late David DeVinson Hutto and Bertelle Rucker Hutto.
Ms. Thomas was often described as a bullheaded and very strong-willed women who never met a stranger. These qualities along with her “my way or the highway” attitude was vital in her success as a Toastmasters, multi-level marketing guru and computer expert. However, none of these qualifications or titles held a candle to her self-described “Sh*t Show Leader” whom everyone loved and more importantly respected.
Ms. Thomas retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield after 58 years. She was also the original owner of Bronco Photography. Barbara was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church. Active member of the Pelion Ruritan. She served as the Secretary of the South Carolina Quarter Horse Association and Palmetto State Quarter Horse Association.
Ms. Thomas is survived by her daughter, Gail Poole Corley; her son, Keith Poole (Melissa Rivera), grandchildren, Amanda Corley Caughman (Brent Caughman); Samantha Corley (Scott Brazell); Santana Poole Poteet (Andrew Poteet) and her great-grandchildren Hampton (Madison), Reece and Hayden Caughman; Emily and Samuel Brazell; Sadie & Jaycie Poteet, Morgan Miller (Austin), and great-great grandson, Barrett Caughman. Barbara was predeceased by her stepfather, Herbert C. Hoover; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Rondau, Margie Seagroves Pitman, Lottie McLain; and brother, Elton Hutto; her husbands and special man friends Aubrey L. Poole, Ken Thomas and Keith Cox, son-in-law Sam Corley.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lexington Community Hospice for their care and to all of their friends and family for helping to guide them through this difficult time.
