HIGHLAND, NY – Billy Lucas, age 90, of Highland, New York, and formerly of Lexington, South Carolina, died December 1, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving extended family. Billy was born September 12, 1928 in South Carolina. He was the son of the late Burley and the late Ethel Lucas.
Billy was married to the late Evetta Padgett Lucas, and they celebrated their 66th anniversary before her death in 2016.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Elaine McElveen and her husband, Terry, of South Carolina, Bonnie Paccione and her husband, Andrew, of South Carolina, Donna June Erichsen and her husband, Jerry, of New York; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and his sisters, Catherine Lucas White and Mary Lucas of South Carolina. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Evetta Padgett Lucas; his son, Billy Lucas Jr.; his daughter, Betty Ann Rippe and her husband, Henry Rippe Jr., and his brothers, James and David Lucas.
Billy served in the United States Armed Forces and fought in the Korean War from 1951-1952. He was a member of the Local 137 Operating Engineers Union of Briarcliff Manor and retired an Operating Engineer. Billy was a train enthusiast and, with the help of his grandsons, Michael Reese and Jerry Erichsen Jr., the last years of his life he enjoyed having a model train set up right in his room for the three of them to tinker with and bicker about for endless hours. He will be remembered lovingly by all and will be missed immensely for his great hugs that he always put a little extra love in for the grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the funeral home.
