Bobbie Lou Harmon Rate

WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Mrs. Bobbie Lou Harmon Rate, 85, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at Pond Branch United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Rate will be placed in the church at 1:15 p.m. prior to the service. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. in the church chapel. Active Pallbearers will be Dennis Carroll Harmon, John David Harmon, Randall Barrett Rate, Bradley Rate Davis, Eric Steve Smith and Bryan David Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pond Branch United Methodist Church Help Committee, 1908 Pond Branch Road, Gilbert, SC 29054.

Bobbie was born October 20, 1926 in Lexington County, SC and passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. She was a daughter of the late Charlie Franklin Harmon and Bertha Erin Long Harmon. Bobbie was a member of Cayce United Methodist Church. She retired from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

She is survived by her children, Betsy Rate Smith (Steve) of West Columbia, John Barrett Rate (Barbara) of West Columbia, Bonnie Rate Smith (William) of Columbia and Barbara Jean Rate Davis (Gregory) of Gilbert; grandchildren, Eronn Elizabeth Smith Amick, Eric Steve Smith, Randall Barrett Rate, Katherine Elizabeth Rate, Meredith Harmon Smith, Bradley Rate Davis, Bryan David Davis and Tasha Elliott Strickland; great-grandchildren, Wesley Steve Smith, Watson Ronald Amick, Walker Lindberg Amick, Taylor Brae Davis, Wade Cooper Davis, Charity Brianne Strickland, Michael Tyler Strickland; sister, Bertha Hilda Harmon Haltiwanger of West Columbia and brother, Daniel “Buddy” Carroll Harmon of Gilbert. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wesley Rate; parents; three brothers and five sisters. The family would like to send a special thank you to National Health Care of West Columbia and Solaris Hospice for their personal care. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
